Those Glossy Politicking NEA Mailings
I wonder how many more of those glossy 8 ½ x 14 inch pro-John Kerry mailings I am going to receive from the National Education Association. So far three have arrived three days in a row. I got the message. Enough tax payer money was wasted on the first one; no need for treble damages.
The NEA is a national organization which purports to serve the interests of public education. Its machinations in political affairs have been tracked for decades by The Eagle Forum which provides regularly reports (http://www.eagleforum.org/topics/nea/nea.html). The Leftist orientation of the NEA is in plain evidence. It masquerades as a teachers union but clearly pursues the work of a lobby for Leftist political interests; it has lobbied for every Democratic presidential candidate since Jimmy Carter.
The Washington state office was caught in 1997 spending mandatory union dues on politics. In 2000, a complaint was filed with the IRS and the Federal Election Commission against the NEA for illegal political lobbying. Millions of dollars in political lobbying is hidden behind such line item euphemisms as “Government Relations Programs Assistance to State Affiliates.”
Even an incorrigible Democrat ought to recognize that the dues which teachers are forced to pay into the NEA would be better left in their own pockets to do with as they choose. If may well be that every public school teacher would gleefully donate generously to the Democratic Party; but probably not.
Better to leave the choice to them. Cut that mandatory dues to the NEA.
