Saul Lamentations

2 Samuel 1

He slew the enemies of the Lord
Whether a few or a great horde.
Was no stopping David’s rise
With swords, spears or lies.
A man came out of the camp of Saul
Right up to David and told it all (11)
And David was sad and tore up his clothes
With yet plenty of reason Saul to loathe.
But David called for the lad to be dead
Said, “Son, your blood is on your head.
Do not rebel against the Lord’s king
Even him who fails His praises to sing.”
Tore up his clothes, fasted and wept,
In safety the king was no longer kept.(12)
Saul was gone, his life was through!
Now what would the people do? (16)
