Inquiry of an Apostate Child

“Is your new guru smarter than your father?” one might ask,
To which the child might say, “Indeed he is.”
“And does he love the truth as well as he?”
To which the child might reply, “Indeed!”
“Then by what standard will you judge a proposition?
Have you a means of coming to some decision?
Surely, you would not rely upon your feeble mind!”
“And what have I other than my mind?” the child may say.
“Well, you’ve got more than even the light of day!
You have the very Word from heaven given by prophets
Of God who confirmed their message with signs and wonders!”
He might reply as he thinks by and by, on the sly, and declares:
“Oh but it is so much fun to think on my own and wander
In awe over the musings of muses and silly gooses.”
So might the wandering child retort with mind out of sort.
To which one may simply remind the child of revelation:
With signs and wonders, not to mention publicity and sensation;
Evidence beyond doubt and dispute complete with a resurrection!
