Keeping that Tithe in Perspective

Imagine a preacher in the ante-bellum South exhorting his congregation on their duty to tithe.  “Now, I know y’all got slaves that you need to care for and they have those special needs that you want to meet and maybe at Christmas time you like to spend a little more on ’em.  But you can’t neglect what you owe God!  You got to keep up on that tithe!”

Seems so strange.  But that is a reasonable depiction of a sermon for which I would bet a person could find some historical documentation.  To what do we give our offerings and our service and our time?  And for what is our sacred tithe being spent today?

Anybody got a “clinic” bombing ministry that needs support?
