Ike and the Ladies (or “Family Reflections”)
Ike grew up with lots of carping;
There were ladies everywhere.
Over anything they loved to chirp
(He offered no more than a burp),
But he made a way through the harem
Played around sometimes to scare ’em.
‘Twas a mighty fine way to grow up!
Then college came along to interrupt.
They, each, had to go their own ways
Doing wonders and all kinds of displays.
Thinkin’ back, ‘Twas a find sisterhood!
All married except for two;
We’re now at two-thousand, twenty-two.
(Talkin’ simple past, not the participle;
You know things aren’t perfect in this world;
Elli’s on her own down in the South,
Catchin’ folks with bad deeds and bad mouth.)
Pressing on with lots of thanksgiving;
His love makes life worth living.
