Pro-choice on the Overdose Issue

I tend to be pro-choice on the Drug Overdose issue.  It seems to me that if a sentient adult (or neo-adult) wishes to do himself in on the thrill of a drug trip, we ought to just let him do his thing – hoping and praying that he comes to his senses before he does, indeed, waste his life.  (Folks rejecting the Savior do it daily by the millions and we don’t force them to listen to the Word of Salvation.)   But the decision to smoke it, pop it or sniff it is a personal one which every autonomous, free person ought to be able to make for himself!

If a fellow wishes to go out with a flare, riding on Cloud Nine and getting the highest thrill he can find in this life, well, why interfere with that choice?  Who are we – parents, friends, or fellow citizens – to interfere with such a choice?  Freedom!

Now, when it comes to imposing one’s drug affinities upon the young and irresponsible, that is another matter, of course.  Punishment is due upon the one who suborns the adjudicating process of a young person who is exercising a choice but under the influence of trusted elder.   He who misleads and thus abuses a minor whose faculties are not equipped enough to make an informed decision about the risk of drug addiction and  overdoses, must be punished as one who has suborned the morals and adjudicating power of a  minor.

Let us advance freedom and loosen those oppressive drug laws.  Liberty! Pro-choice on the Overdose issue!
