2 Chron 26

(20 Dec., 2021)

Uzziah was strong and full of pride;
Thought he could go where the priests abide,
Right into that holy sanctuary!
Oh!  He was quite contrary!
Azariah, the priest, came in after him;
Said, “Just who do you think you are?” (18)
Got smitten real good with the leprosy (19)
And stayed that way ’til the day he died. (21)
Fool thought God’s Law could be tried!
Was buried in a field, not in the grave of kings; (23)
(To die a leper is a cursed way to go of all things).
Then Jotham took his place at the Twenty-five; (27:1)
Reigned sixteen years in the capital city.
Did right but was a secular man; (2)
Beat the Ammonites and took from them tribute. (5)
Had a secular son who was a brute.
Whipped those Ammonites and took their loot.
“Slept with his fathers” and a son, Ahaz, was next,
Who was wicked like the sons of Israel; (28:2)
Made molten images of those Baals.
Burned his sons in the fire like the pagans; (3)
An abomination; the way of the nations
Whom the Lord Himself had driven out.
Opted – those fools – for the same old route!
