A Fine Gittite Was Ittai

2 Sam. 15

Well, his name means “brother of foolishness”
And it’s a name that fit him quite well;
Yeah, we’re talkin’ ’bout Ahithophel.
Well, Abby plotted with that old man,
A counselor from a city called Giloh.
Well, they worked on a genuine conspiracy
To take King David right on down.
“Arise and let us flee!” said the man
“We got to leave just as fast as we can!
Got to make some haste to leave this place!
Ain’t no time left to mess around!
They gonna bring that calamity
With the edge of the sword (14)
Got to rally the horde and go
Don’t you know?  Let’s fly!
No time to tarry! You wanna die?
But Ittai was a different kind of guy,
A Gittite is what he was called.
Didn’t want to bow to “King Absalom.”
Said, “I’ll be wherever you wanna be!”
“Well, go and passover,” said Dave
“If you’re sure you wanna go all the way.”
That Ittai was a mighty fine Gittite
You want him on your side in a fight!
Then Zadok was totin’ that ark,
Thought it’d help them all through the dark.
Had the glory and comfort of a steeple,
An object to see for God’s people.
