Swifter Than a Gazelle

(2 Sam. 2:17-28)

There were Joab, Abishae and Asahel
And Asahel was swift as a gazelle
Pursuing Abner not turning left or right
Abner looked behind and said, “Is that really you?”
“Chasin’ my ass!  So what I gonna do?”
He answered and said, “Yeah, it is I” (20)
Abner said, “Well you gonna have to die!”
But Asahel refused and Abner stuck him in the belly
So the spear came right on out his back! (23)
He fell right there dead on the spot
And every one walking by had to stop.
Then after Abner went Joab and Abishai
And when the sun went down, they did not sigh. (24)
They finally made it to the hill of Ammah (24)
By the way of the wilderness in front of Giah.
Right behind Abner where the sons of Benjamin (25)
And Abner said to Joab, “Is this ever gonna end?” (26)
When we gonna tell ’em to stop killin’ all their brothers?
Looked around and thinkin’ ’bout the others.
They quit that day from all that nasty killin’ (28)
Seems the Devil lost his sway, that wicked villain.
