Hello Mervyn!

(A Repentant Sodomite)

It’s a new age don’t ya know!
The likes of Mervyn Tucket,
We just don’t see today.
He confessed his sin of sodomy
And went to his death in England.
‘Twas long ago in the day of light
Back when there was Wrong and  Right.
An English nobleman he was;
Yeah, a member of Parliament!
The Second Earl of Castlehaven
Was convicted of misbehavin’;
He died in sixteen thirty-one
At thirty-eight years of age.
But by confession of his sin
He got cleansed within!
There is hope in heaven for Mervyn
Where the Lord he’ll be servin’.

In 1630, Castlehaven was publicly accused of raping his wife and committing sodomy with two of his servants and subsequently, after due process, was duly executed.

After some deliberation, the Privy Council returned a unanimous verdict of guilty on the charge of rape.  The sodomy charge was also upheld, but by a slim margin as not all jurors agreed that actual penetration had taken place.
