Halloween: A Soothing Salve

There is a legitimate fear that ought to beset every human being.  Death will come, an end to one’s
existence –  as it is known.  And then what?

Will there be just a cessation of existence?   Or terror?  Torment?  Judgment?

That anxiety – the uncertainty – is relieved by NOTHING but the firm promise of salvation through the atoning work of Jesus.  There is no other firm hope presented to humanity.

But for those who have no such hope, whether due to ignorance or rejection of the message of salvation through the Savior, Halloween is a distractive relief – a distraction.   One can make light of the legitimate fear that comes from death as a consequence of the sin – of which all are well aware.

Wear a mask and playfully deal with the reality of death and horror which comes from the suspicion the there is a real Judgment to come!

Otherwise, for those who have peace with God (or are blissfully ignorant of their grave condition),  Halloween is a fun time for costumes, surprises, neighborhood visits, and the distribution (and acquisition) of goodies!

Onward!  Thanks be to the One who conquered death, the Lord and Savior, Jesus.
