Promiscuous Divorcing and Errant Endurance

“Balance” comes to mind as the ever-all solution to most problems.  Selfishness may be at the root of both conditions.

Why do we marry?  And why divorce?  We seek our own benefit,  joy and wellbeing.  Bottom line is the pursuit of our own good.

But we must also seek justice with the glory of God in mind.   That is our highest calling, our purpose.

Our own good is the interest God has in us when He gives us Law.  Yes, the Law expresses His holiness.  But it also expresses His love for His creatures.  “Love one another, as I have loved you”!  So says the God who made humanity.

Does God love His people?  And does he not abandon and judge the unrepentant?

There are limits to human lovability.  (He “divorces” folks; He casts creatures, made in His image, into hell – forever!)

But according to His sovereign grace which He applies eternally to whom He wills, He will chase down and secure the salvation of His own, His elect, His bride for whom He died.

That is the Gospel.
