Don’t Bring Your Offerings

Is. 1:13f. (In the language of the common man)

Don’t bring your offerings to Me;
I’m gonna hide my eyes when you pray! (15)
Get your deeds clean out o’ my sight! (16)
Do some good and defend an orphan (17)
Come on, let’s think a minute about it!
You’re as filthy as can be, don’t ya see?
But I’ll make you as clean as the sea. (18)
You know you’re as dirty as bull,
But I’ll clean you as white as wool!
You’re gonna eat all the best of the land; (19)
I’ll treat you like the leader of the band!
But if you want to refuse and rebel,
Well, I’ll just have to treat you like hell. (20)
Now, this is comin’ from the mouth of the Lord;
Don’t be stupid and act like you’re bored.
Oh, how the faithful city became a whore; (21)
Treated God’s word like nothin’ but a bore!
Got no justice in the city any more;
A place where murderers reside
And thieves take bribes and like to hide. (23)
Nobody gives a rip about the orphan
Or babies gettin’ butchered on the side.
Yeah, they’re killin’ ’em right out in the open
Most sober, and some after a little dopin’.
