Politics and Vote Courting

To think oneself above politics
Is snide concession to anarchy.
One must affirm or deny a candidate
And treat him as one worthy of debate
Revealing what he may love or hate
And so rule him either out or in
And so you may help him lose or win.
Now if your candidate be a she,
It must be wondered what authority
She might revere above her father
And what principles she does honor.
But that of course is how we endorse
Those running for office and of course
We consider doctrine along with character,
Valuing principles over fine actors.
So, indeed we have a heritage of voting
Leaving winners with joy and some gloating.
