Burnt Offerings of Rams

(Isaiah 1:11-19)

Burnt offerings of rams
And the fat of fed cattle
Give the thrills of a baby’s rattle.
“I don’t dig it!” says the Lord;
“Your offerings are a real bore
And you’re dirtying up My court! (12)
Just take you trash and go home; (13)
I hate your new moons and appointed feasts! (14)
Though they might be bringin’ you some peace,
When you spread your hands, I hide My eyes! (15)
You know I find you all quite disgusting;
Forgot my Word and for this world you’re lusting;
You got to wash yourselves and get clean!
Get your evil right out o’ My sight; (16)
Quit doin’ what’s wicked and do what’s right!
I said: reprove the ruthless and defend the orphan
And for the widow you got to plead! (17)
Come on!  Let’s talk.  I got somethin’ to say: (18)
You know your sins are lookin’ real bloody,
But I’ll make you so you’re no longer cruddy.
You’ll be clean and white as snow;
No more o’ that bloody-lookin’ glow.
Do right by Me and you’ll get the best, (19)
Even better than a My Pillow rest!
‘But,’ says the Lord, ‘if you want to stay in trouble,
I can make your sorrows double!
You don’t want to mess with Me!'”
