36th Year of Asa’s Reign

2 Chron. 16

‘Twas the 36th year of Asa’s reign
When Baasha came down to give some pain.
Brought some silver and gold
From the house of the Lord
To deal with the king of Aram.
Said, “How ’bout a treaty ‘tween you an’ me?
I got some silver and gold to make it sweet!” (v. 3)
So Ben-hadad gave a listen to Asa
And sent some armies on those Israeli cities. (4)
When Baasha heard the news, he stopped his work, (5)
Carried off the stones and the timber from Ramah. (6)
Then a prophet named Hanani came along,
Said to Asa, “What you doing is so wront!” (9)
And Asa said, “Don’t be singin’ that song!”
Yeah, Asa put that seer’s ass right in jail! (10)
So in the thirty-ninth year of his reign
He found his feet were givin’ him pain (12)
And though the sickness was severe
He still to God did not draw near!
Puttin’ trust in those docs, he was avid
Dead and buried in the city of David (14)
