Of Double Standard “Atrocity” Critics

19 May, 2004

Dear Editor,

I was grateful for the rebuke from Bob Robinson of “the Left” – he did not so name them- (see “Modern day My Lai a Hypocrisy,” WNJ, 19 May).  There are those who hypocritically find atrocities in anything our soldiers did in Viet Nam while overlooking the super-holocaust deeds of Mao, Stalin, and Pol Pot of the last century. So, now, the Left magnifies any misdeeds of our solders while it looks through the wrong end of a telescope when viewing the regular barbarism of Muslims in Bosnia, Hussein in Iraq, the kidnapping and killing of Wall Street Journalist Daniel Pearl, the mutilating and hanging for four Americans non-combatants on 31 March, and the beheading of an American non-combatant by Iraqis a fortnight ago.

There is an additional piece of hypocrisy that ought to be pointed out.  Why the outrage over the perverse treatment of the prisoners?  Were they mutilated?  Were parts of their bodies excised (as are the breasts, for instance, of Sudanese Christian women, at the hands of Muslim terrorists)?

No. Their dignity was insulted.

But here is the more subtle and never-spoken hypocrisy.  The Left never finds a word to speak against any form of perversion (need some definition of the word?).  Leftists will not call sodomy, incest, bestiality or necrophilia a perversion because they have no standard for what is right and wrong.  They have no Law originating from anywhere but themselves; there is no divine Lawgiver.

They make offending one’s “dignity” to be the crime of the moment.  But what is it?  Physically harmless “sexual intimations and innuendo.”

Indeed, and by Christian standards, where sexuality is sacred, such actions would be attacks upon a prisoner’s dignity (albeit rising not so high as the atrocity of slaughtering, mutilating and hanging innocents).  But not by the standards of Leftists.  They have no regard for human sexuality any more than for that of dogs and cats.  There is no God and no Imago Dei in man.

So why all the fuss?  How do they get their knickers in a knot over this so-called scandal?

It makes for a convenient political tool to oppose a war they don’t like.
