College mission statements, like ancient laws, national codes and constitutions, sometimes fall into desuetude – out of fashion, out of favor, ignored. \u00a0\u00a0If such statements or decrees are alleged to reflect Divine law, then the people – now indifferent – \u00a0have gone astray.\u00a0 If there is no Law (as Modernists would have it) to which “higher education” they appeals,\u00a0an inquiry into the people\u2019s general morality cannot be known by the historian\/observer\u00a0because there is no Standard to violate.\u00a0 There is no Right and no Wrong. \u00a0Everyone is cool.<\/p>\n
WilmingtonCollege publishes a mission statement which declares:<\/p>\n
The purpose of Wilmington College is to educate, inspire, and prepare each student for a life of success and service . . . shaped by traditions of . . .\u00a0distinctive values of the Religious Society of Friends (Quakers) . . .\u00a0 to seek truth and social justice.<\/p>\n
But what can that mean if there is no Truth?<\/p>\n
In keeping with this mission, the College seeks \u201cto foster a commitment to the highest standards.\u201d \u00a0\u00a0Among the \u201ccore values\u201d is \u201cintegrity\u201d by which teachers intend to teach their students \u201cto be fair, honest, and ethical.\u201d\u00a0 The college desires that its students \u201cvalue the dignity and worth of all persons.\u201d<\/p>\n
Sadly, in keeping with the popular trend of the \u201cprogressive\u201d minds of the last twentieth century which dominates contemporary (and \u201cliberal\u201d) liberal arts institutions, \u201call persons\u201d includes capital offenders and enemy combatants but excludes the most helpless and innocent of all – children in the womb.\u00a0 Thus it is No<\/em> to war; No<\/em> to capital punishment; and Yes<\/em> to aborting unwanted fetuses.
