{"id":8166,"date":"2024-01-12T11:55:12","date_gmt":"2024-01-12T16:55:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/michaelbray.org\/?p=8166"},"modified":"2024-01-12T11:55:12","modified_gmt":"2024-01-12T16:55:12","slug":"on-violence-as-distinguished-from-force","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/michaelbray.org\/?p=8166","title":{"rendered":"On &#8220;Violence&#8221; As Distinguished From &#8220;Force&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When we speak of the &#8220;use of force,&#8221; we may count it a good thing or a bad one, depending upon the circumstances.\u00a0 Was force used to <em>prevent <\/em>or <em>halt<\/em> an evil?\u00a0 Was it used to <em>commit<\/em> an evil?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Was it military <em>violence<\/em> which conquered the Nazis?&nbsp; Is it police <em>violence<\/em> which guns down a church-bombing terrorist?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A husband who passionately &#8211; even vigorously &#8211; makes loves to his wife does no violence.&nbsp; A rapist, however gentle, does <em>violence<\/em> to a woman.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Someone who blows up an abortuary (which saves the lives of babies) does no <em>violence<\/em>.&nbsp; He, rather, provides life-saving <em>service<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Get it straight and avoid slandering those who bomb abortuaries or terminate abortionists.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">12 Jan., 2024<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>When we speak of the &#8220;use of force,&#8221; we may count it a good thing or a bad one, depending upon the circumstances.\u00a0 Was force used to prevent or halt an evil?\u00a0 Was it used to commit an evil?
