{"id":3685,"date":"2020-10-06T12:30:41","date_gmt":"2020-10-06T17:30:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/michaelbray.org\/?p=3685"},"modified":"2020-10-07T08:06:55","modified_gmt":"2020-10-07T13:06:55","slug":"geppi-bray-egan-and-tye","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/michaelbray.org\/?p=3685","title":{"rendered":"Geppi, Bray, Egan, and Ty"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>I can\u2019t remember our Coach Zehring&#8217;s first name.\u00a0 He had a son on our team who did not start, nor play much.\u00a0 And I remember Coach taking some heat from his wife for not playing the boy. \u00a0Jack, I think, was his name.\u00a0 It has been so long, some 50-plus years ago.\u00a0 He was younger that most on the team.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And I don&#8217;t know if I spelled &#8220;Tye&#8221; right.\u00a0 We never wrote down one another&#8217;s names.\u00a0 We just played ball. \u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Egan was the catcher, the stouter of us all &#8211; by no means a fat fellow.&nbsp; All were trim, quick, and smart. And we beat everybody.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But it is that constant batting order that has intrigued me even today.&nbsp; Every game, when we started up to bat, the coach would call it out, &#8220;Geppi, Bray, Egan, and Tye&#8221; and it&#8217;s still ringing in my ears. &nbsp;And they were &#8211; all three &#8211; Johns:&nbsp; John Geppi, John Egan, and John Tye  (I was the distinguished Mike). <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I didn&#8217;t keep up with baseball.&nbsp; Moving as we did <em>every year or two<\/em>, other opportunities came up and circumstances warred against further participation &#8220;next year&#8221; in anything and moved me into other interests. Swimming, diving, football,  tennis and wresting all combined to squeeze baseball out.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>No regrets.&nbsp; Each sport or hobby or association has its own attractions and benefits and opportunities.
