{"id":3630,"date":"2020-09-23T14:13:03","date_gmt":"2020-09-23T19:13:03","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/michaelbray.org\/?p=3630"},"modified":"2020-09-23T14:14:31","modified_gmt":"2020-09-23T19:14:31","slug":"oureia-ekbole","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/michaelbray.org\/?p=3630","title":{"rendered":"&#8220;Oureia Ekbole&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>That would be the transliteration of the expression which references &#8220;children exposed on the mountains&#8221; according to Euripedes as noted in my Greek-English Lexicon (Liddell and Scott, 7th edition).\u00a0 One finds this information when looking up the single word &#8220;ekbole&#8221; which means 1) &#8220;a throwing&#8221; and 2) &#8220;ejectment, banishing the cargo overboard.&#8221;\u00a0 It is not until the last (and sixth) definition when &#8220;oureia&#8221; is included and the reference to the phrase used by Euripedes is noted.\u00a0 <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A window into the pagan past of Greece and, indeed, the\npre-Christian world in general.&nbsp; Quite\nbarbaric, don&#8217;t cha know!&nbsp; And, in fact,\nquite normal.&nbsp; The human heart is corrupt\nand apart from the Truth of God Word and the working of His spirit in the\nhearts of men through His church, such disgusting, brutal, inhumanity would be\nabundant and not resisted with the same zeal and confidence as it has been\nthroughout the history of the West and wherever the Gospel has thrived. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>What a world we were brought <em>out of<\/em> &#8211; by the power of the Gospel as it was carried by the Church and as nations bowed before Christ as the living Lord and King and ruler of all.
