D<\/span>ear Blessed Subscriber,<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

We ask your pardon for<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>the leanness of this fall issue.<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>Hard times have befallen us.<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>Reformation Lutheran Church,<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>which has subsidized the publishing of<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>Capitol Area Christian News, <\/span><\/i>is unable to continue to do so at this time.<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>Nor does it appear that worldly riches await us in the immediate future to enable resumption of support.<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>Since the spring of<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>1991<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>we<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>have reported on Christian action in the Capitol area.<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>And with alacrity and thanksgiving we have brought you national news which<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>few other \u201cprolife\u201d publications will even mention.<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>We speak fondly the names of<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>Shelley, Paul, Marjorie, Curt,<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>and a growing host of others.<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>Our<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>\u201cRadical Fringe\u201d section has been the bane of abortion lovers,<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>a scandal to the establishment prolife movement,<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>and the dread of<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>the<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>Reno Justice Department.<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>Yes, the good news in the pages of CACN has been <\/span>life<\/span><\/i> to many prisoners of Christ and to activists who enjoy reading the unadulterated truth seasoned with meet and salutary mockery of the wicked. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Alas, instead of the usual pithy 12-page newsletter adorned with priceless photos and infused with the salt of satire, you hold in your hands a common beg letter.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

(Yes, we<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>have abased ourselves herewith for the sake of your edification and the advancement of<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>truth.<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>We beg<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>you, therefore, to give ear to our need and heed our<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>begging.)<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

First, let us remind you of our humble<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>mode of operation.<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>Our church<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>has undergone numerical recession in recent months leaving a population of about forty people – mostly children.<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>Your editor-in- chief earns his living from pastoring Reformation Lutheran Church<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>and<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>teaching middle school children. No profits are earned from this publication.<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>All labor is donated beyond the expenses of printing, layout, and postage.<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>These expenses have been covered by subscriptions and<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>RLC.<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Second.<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>We know that many of you abide in a state of near penury and we suppose that some wander as vagabonds from town to down sniffing out abortuaries to abuse.<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>We do not wish to diminish your ministries in the slightest!<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>Far be in from us to undermine the great works of God.<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>Keep your money and<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>press on.<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>And we imagine that there are others who give tithes and offerings to these saints.<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>Others use their<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>extra mammon to support various missionaries to the preborn (or even the eponymous Milwaukee MTP), Rescue America, or ACLA activist groups.<\/span>\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span>Some of you support AFLM\u2019s flagship magazine, <\/span>Life Advocate.<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span><\/i>We would not want our request to compromise your support of<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>these folks<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>in the least!<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

Bearing these matters in mind,<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>here is the deal.<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>We need $750 per quarter to put out this publication.<\/span>\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span>(Should we receive more that this we will happily put more money into trial offers and expand our readership.<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>We do not waste money sending<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>CACN to a \u201cmailing list\u201d of people who don\u2019t subscribe for a measly five bucks;<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>we send it regularly to subscribers only.)<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>We need regular support until a sufficient number of<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>subscriptions are secured. <\/span>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Recall the recent shameful treatment of the saints of God at the hands of evangelical pundits.<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>Cal Thomas called the termination of Abortionist Gunn \u201ctragic and wrong.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>Chuck Colson called it a \u201chorrid, senseless act, immediately condemned by<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>responsible prolife leaders.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>Likewise the U.S. Catholic Conference said, \u201cThe violence of killing in the name of<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>pro-life makes a mockery of the pro-life cause.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

And with an ear toward using terminology more acceptable to our abortion culture<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>Southern Baptist Professor of Divinity Fisher Humphreys writes, \u201cLet us stop calling abortion \u2018murder.\u2019<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>Instead, let us call it cruel and sinful.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>The good professor refers to baby killers by the latest PC term – \u201cabortion providers\u201d – as he warns others about <\/span>their <\/b>choice of terms: \u201cThere is a link between the language of \u2018murder\u2019 used by the movement and the violence which some extremists are now practicing\u201d (See the Sept.\/Oct. issue of<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>the SBC newsletter <\/span>Light<\/span><\/i>).<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Ex-OR leader Randall Terry called the termination of Abortionist Gunn \u201can inappropriate and repulsive act.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>And on and on has come a profusion of denunciations of God\u2019s holy ones who have lifted an effective hand in defense of<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>His innocents.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

At the<\/span> banquet <\/b>we will celebrate jailed defenders of children in the womb.<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>We will honor as heroes those who have sacrificed their lives and their freedom.<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>We will recognize those who have been scorned by Christian leaders and establishment prolife leaders. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

As we continue to declare the truth and seek justice for the child in the womb, let us not neglect our<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>brothers and sisters in prison.<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>Those who name the name of<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>Christ – our own brothers and sisters in Him – suffer unjustly.<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>Yes,<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>they do so willingly for righteousness\u2019 sake.<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>But we are not obliged to sit silently by.<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>We must advocate for their freedom – parole, pardon, clemency, etc.<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Let us come together and celebrate these defenders of<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>the innocents.<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>And let us begin to speak out to the authorities for their release.<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Justice, then<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>Peace,<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
