{"id":1542,"date":"2014-06-06T12:42:43","date_gmt":"2014-06-06T17:42:43","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/michaelbray.org\/?p=1542"},"modified":"2014-08-19T12:02:38","modified_gmt":"2014-08-19T17:02:38","slug":"bowie-maryland-flier-november-1989","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/michaelbray.org\/?p=1542","title":{"rendered":"Reformation Lutheran Church, Bowie, Maryland  (November, 1989)"},"content":{"rendered":"<h5>RLC.\u00a0 The Church is no more.\u00a0 Reformation Lutheran Church existed from the fall of 1984 until the summer of 2003.\u00a0 The pastors at the time were Michael Bray and Michael Colvin.\u00a0 The Church came into existence from a schism in Grace Lutheran Church (ALC) in response to the general apostasy\u00a0of the ALC which, soon after the local schism, formed an alliance with two other apostatizing Lutheran denominations (the AELC [which had recently split from the\u00a0orthodox LCMS]\u00a0and the LCA)\u00a0to form the more patently apostate ELCA, the third largest denomination in the United States (behind the Southern Baptist Convention and the apostate United Methodist Church).<\/h5>\n<p>Below\u00a0is a flier our young church circulated to thousands in Bowie, Maryland.\u00a0 It is a call to the reconstruction of society (starting with our town) on the basis of God&#8217;s law.\u00a0 It is a call to return to our historical roots.\u00a0 The flier calls the citizenry to begin reconstruction with something small.\u00a0 A declaration of Christ&#8217;s lordship over the city\u00a0must <em>at least<\/em> take the form of an affirmation of the right to life of human\u00a0beings.\u00a0 Accordingly, the city was urged to make itself an\u00a0 &#8220;Abortion Free Zone.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Lest the modern reader, unaccustomed to the call for simple execution in concert with\u00a0the deity&#8217;s demand for capital punishment, find himself &#8220;put off&#8221; by the exhortation to enforce capital punishment for capital crimes, let us suggest\u00a0he\u00a0direct his thoughts to some\u00a0ameliorating considerations: 1) We moderns are faddish and fickle people, whose sense\u00a0of justice\u00a0accommodates itself,\u00a0quite corruptly, to the\u00a0ever-blowing <em>Zeit Geist.\u00a0 2) <\/em> Biblical justice requires two witnesses for the conviction of a capital crime.\u00a0 The result is that\u00a0 convictions for\u00a0capital offenses are\u00a0rarely\u00a0completed.\u00a0\u00a0A capital crime is one which must be\u00a0flagrantly committed with such insolent\u00a0high-handed Lawlessness\u00a0that it begs for just punishment.\u00a0 Let us consider the example of the lawless juvenile, whose repeated offenses earn him a<em> stoning.\u00a0\u00a0<\/em>Our\u00a0collective revulsion\u00a0serves as a popular example of modernity&#8217;s\u00a0abhorrence for\u00a0the\u00a0unmodern commands of Moses\u00a0(Deut. 21:18-22).\u00a0 The hoodlum is to be taken by his parents indicted before the elders and then directed by them, upon examining the evidence, to stone him.\u00a0 All the men of the city were to participate in the execution.<\/p>\n<p>Quite a feat.\u00a0 Imagine enlisting all the elders of your town to stone some regular incorrigible delinquent.\u00a0 What would the stoners think of the parents of the\u00a0hoodlum?<\/p>\n<p>Surely\u00a0some astonished old\u00a0Israelites <em>back in the day<\/em> would have smacked the parents in the chops and sent them home with a stern warning to whip their kid into shape and not to bother them again lest they get <em>themselves<\/em> a good public spanking!<\/p>\n<p>In fact, there is <em>no record<\/em> of Israel <em>ever<\/em> carrying out the death sentence on any juvenile delinquent &#8211;<em> in all the history of Israel<\/em> &#8211;
