Author of A Time To Kill

Back from the Crematorium

(Where the remains Joseph A. Bray Jr. were installed)

Went back to that Naval Academy;
Been some time since I’d been there.
Dad’s remains were put in a box,
In a drawer the size of a fist.
Yes, death will humble us all.
But, thanks be to God who had the gall
To come down and take on flesh
And make our lives clean and fresh.
We’ll all rise some Day to come;
They’ll blow the trumpets and beat the drums.
Right up out of those graves in a flash
And into His presence we’ll make a dash.
So God says it like this:
“Green light, red light. What’s it gonna be?
Whom do you follow: The world or Me?”
Get it all straight before it’s too late.
Don’t wait on “fate.”
So drop your hesitation
Along with foolish reservation;
You know the alternative is bad
And worse than just makin’ you sad.
You’ll be burnin’ day and night
With all that miserable fright:
An eternity of sad separation
From the One who came for the nation.
Not only Israel, but for all the world
And for you grace has been unfurled.
