David to Solomon
2 Sam. 2:3f.
Buck up and keep His Commands!
Be strong and show yourself a man!
Said keep the charge of the Lord your God;
Be walking in his way in those statutes,
Those Commands, Ordinances, and Testimonies.
Succeed wherever you turn;
You want to keep away from that Burn!
So that the Lord may carry out the promise (4)
‘Bout those being careful in their way.
Got to pay attention to the Law all day.
Don’t do like Joab, the son of Zeruiah
Makin’ war when it’s time for peace. (5)
Got to get together all that wisdom! (6)
Take care o’ those sons of Basrzillai
They get to sit down at your table. (7)
Talkin’ ’bout you, my man Solomon! (7)
Now, there’s a guy by the name of Shimei;
Did me wrong with a violent curse.
He’s got to die, but not by a blade;
Some pain has got to be paid. (6)
That boy’s got a date with Sheol
Got a wicked, God-hatin’ soul.
