One Criterion

There is one criterion,
That Word on which we stand.
Holding fast and true we’ll be
On the Rock and not the sand.
Evermore we forward press
‘Round us is a world of stress
People wandering in the fray
Looking for the light of day.
Thence coming, yonder blowing
Life and love never knowing.
And comes to us that day to die
Looking ’round and wondering why.
‘Tis that thing, long called sin
Victory o’er we cannot win.
We go forth, sometimes bored,
And then return unto the Lord
